Eligibility of Candidates

Learn about eligibility to become candidate for president in the Congolese Community of Maine elections on November 9, 2024.

Candidate Eligibility Conditions
  • The candidate President of the Congolese community of Maine (COCOMAINE)

    must submit a file with the following elements:

  • A cover letter of his candidacy signed by himself;

  • A curriculum vitae (CV) detailing his professional experience and his academic background;

  • Two passport photos;

  • Legal copy of the background check not older than 3 months;

  • A copy of legal proof of residence in the state of Maine such as the driver's license or ID;

  • An action plan for managing the community during the two years of mandate;

  • Present two witnesses who will be committed to the voting operations on the election day;

  • The candidate must have mastery of the French language, English and one of our languages ​​of the country;

  • Application fees of two hundred and fifty US dollars, or in figures, $250.00;

  • The candidate must co-sign with the Independent Electoral Commission a code of good conduct in two copies;

For the good of the Cocomaine, it is hoped that the presidential candidate will have the following profile:
  • Have a sense of leadership;

  • Be available to serve the Cocomaine;

  • Have a residence in the State of Maine for at least 5 years;

  • Be at least 35 years old;

  • Have proof of Congolese origin (voter card, passport. birth certificate, in short one of these documents is highly desirable);

  • Also have parents of Congolese origin while proving it;

  • Probity and moral integrity;

  • Hold at least a graduate degree diploma or equivalent.

  • Be of Congo origin with proof of Congolese nationality ( Passport, Voter Card, Driving License or Birth Certificate);

  • For voters born here in the USA, at least one of their parents must be Congolese, this must be proven by bringing one of the above-mentioned documents;

  • A document proving residency in the State of Maine;

About Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission was established as a result of an initiative by the boards of directors and the executive committee of Cocomaine, aimed at fostering a fair electoral process for the Congolese community. Following the formation of an ad hoc commission, the need for an independent body became evident, leading to the creation of the Electoral Commission. This independent entity is tasked with organizing the general election, ensuring that the electoral process is conducted transparently and efficiently. The commission plays a crucial role in upholding democratic principles, providing the Congolese community with a platform to exercise their right to vote and participate in governance. Through its efforts, the Electoral Commission seeks to reinforce trust in the electoral system and promote active civic engagement among the populace.
