Biography
Okita Otolembo a citizen of the Democratic of the Congo who moved in Maine for many years, a husband and a father of two children. After graduating from high school, he spent three years in Bio-medical (university). He has a passion for learning and updating his knowledge. He speaks four languages fluently besides two others that he is learning. He’s christian and firmly believes in God!
He has taken various training programs: leadership and management, basic accounting, all Microsoft software programs, Photoshop and Design, tax preparation, communicational interaction, passed the Maine court interpreter test and the medical interpreters’ test and so on. Serving others has always been his motivation as a true leader. As far as volunteering: he taught computer basics at LearningWorks where he was also conducting intake, interpreter and translator at JFON and ILAP in the past.
He worked at Hewitt as a scheduler and assistant for the tax prep, at the Maine court as TIER 1. Above all, he works as a freelancer translator for the Lingala and French Written materials. He has helped a lot of asylum seekers in Maine connect with experienced immigration attorneys, as well as folks in the community, more than one thousand with their work permit, thus contributing indirectly to the economic development of Maine.
He envisions a united and strong community capable of facing the realities of the moment through the support of the members; contributing to positive integration initiatives, revising its bylaws in agreement with the board of directors, connecting its members to existing resources and working on the reputation, promotion and development of the community; creating harmony between different components inside the structure of the Congolese Community of Maine and urging to comply with the laws. He is willing to implement concrete projects that will benefit the community. He believes that together we can achieve a lot.
